Born in Iran in 1972, but since the early eighties a citizen of Denmark, it was a musical heritage in his family that firmly embedded that passion in the head of Nima Gorji and lead him to his current home, Ibiza. A resident there since 2005, Nima has since established himself as a guardian of underground music on the island, becoming a regular at Space and key player for Monza and influential part of the burgeoning success of the ‘Underground’ venue – the definitive alternative to the big club experience in Ibiza. Moreover, using his name and aliases like Black Powder, Gorji has become a mainstay producer on the quality electronic circuit with releases on Murmur, Tsuba and his own Welt Recordings.
A gigging DJ in Copenhagen since a teenager, Nima’s legacy on the Danish capital’s clubbing scene was huge and it was during this time that first releases – as Black Powder – garnered interest from the international dance community. This effectively launched his career as a gigging DJ and hot producer with early fans such as Danny Tenaglia and King Unique.
Another production pseudonym – Manijama – provided the commercially successful release ‘No No No’, on Defected Records in 2003, but this direction was short-lived however, with Nima quickly returned to the solid deep tech sound he has become a champion of. Since then he has built an extensive release history as the demand for his talents as producer or remixer strengthens. This included the re-launch of his own label Welt Recordings and a production catalog that encompasses the very best of contemporary underground labels, such as Systematic, Circle, Tsuba and Safari Electronique.
