DJ Producers

Nima Gorji

Born in Iran in 1972, but since the early eighties a citizen of Denmark, it  was a musical heritage in his family that firmly embedded that passion in the head of Nima Gorji and lead him to his current home, Ibiza. A resident there since 2005, Nima has since established himself as a guardian of underground music on the island, becoming a regular at Space and key player for Monza and influential part of the burgeoning success of the ‘Underground’ venue – the definitive alternative to the big club experience in Ibiza. Moreover, using his name and aliases like Black Powder, Gorji has become a mainstay producer on the quality electronic circuit with releases on Murmur, Tsuba and his own Welt Recordings.

A gigging DJ in Copenhagen since a teenager, Nima’s legacy on the Danish capital’s clubbing scene was huge and it was during this time that first releases – as Black Powder – garnered interest from the international dance community. This effectively launched his career as a gigging DJ and hot producer with early fans such as Danny Tenaglia and King Unique.

Another production pseudonym – Manijama –  provided the commercially successful release ‘No No No’, on Defected Records in 2003, but this direction was short-lived however, with Nima quickly returned to the solid deep tech sound he has become a champion of. Since then he has built an extensive release history as the demand for his talents as producer or remixer strengthens. This included the re-launch of his own label Welt Recordings and a production catalog that encompasses the very best of contemporary underground labels, such as Systematic, Circle, Tsuba and Safari Electronique.

Dave Clarke

Dave Clarke, the Baron of Techno – a moniker given to him by none other than John Peel – has spent 20 years as one of the world’s leading techno DJs as well as being renowned as an anti-establishment and outspoken authority on the electronic music scene. He found his way into music in the 90s with influences as broad as Devo, early Chicago house and soul music, which eventually landed him a DJ slot in Brighton. Soon such gigs provided Clarke with a meagre living and then in 1994 his reputation was sealed by a series of EPs known collectively as ‘Red’.

Red 1 and Red 2 are acknowledged as not only as a defining moment for Clarke’s career – it was after them that John Peel gave him the famous nickname – but in the evolution of techno itself. The debut album by Clarke Archive One, which these tracks appear on, was hailed for its innovative approach to blending sounds, a rarity in techno terms at the time. ‘Wisdom to the Wise’ on Red 2 still stands as one of the most timeless and classic techno tracks ever produced.

Now a resident of Amsterdam, from where he broadcasts his award-winning radio show ‘White Noise’ and runs the label of the same name – signing our own Woody Mcbride among others – technology enthusiast Clarke remains a regular at clubs like Fabric in London, The Rex in Paris and headlines festivals like Glade in the UK and Extrema in Holland.

Twisted aka Wayne G & Stewart Who

Launching his career with typical grandiosity, Wayne G debuted at London’s infamous Red Heart party in April 1996, performing alongside Grace Jones to a dance-floor of 3,000. Quickly he became one of London’s workaholic residents, first at Turnmills and then onto the world famous Heaven, where he was to remain for nine years as main floor resident.

Since then Wayne has played huge parties across the world, including all the most celebrated gay festivals and gatherings, such as Sydney Mardi Gras, Berlin Love Parade, World Pride and Miami Winter Music Conference. Over the last year his travels have taken him from Mexico City to Shanghai and everywhere in between.

In terms of production, Wayne has been equally successful, first showcasing his studio talents in 1996 with the explosive original track TWISTED, in collaboration with Stewart Who. It was soon re-mixed by Danny Tenaglia, amongst others, and went on to sell more than 150,000 copies worldwide, becoming the biggest selling dance single of 1998 and going Gold in Australia, remaining in the Top Twenty there for over six months. As a result of this his remix and production career burgeoned and an impressive CV now includes work for Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguliera, Celine Dion, Deborah Cox, Whitney Houston, Darren Hayes, Erasure, Candi Staton and Olive.

Dimitri Nakov

Know for seminal DJ sets across the world from Brazil to Japan Ibiza based DJ and producer Dimitri Nakov is now moving his DJ career to europe, as well as creating an exciting solo project, producing remixes and building collaborations.

His remixes for ‘Coma’ and ‘Park It the Shade’, both originally by Sasha, had the required impact on the dance-floor and from there he became renowned for his remix of Christian Smith & John Selways’ 1996 classic ‘Move!’.

Further sealing the deal on the dance-floor was his release ‘Sao Paulo Nights’ for John Digweed’s Bedrock Records which brought out a much more musical side to tech house and to Dimitri’s persona which quickly conquered new ground.

Recent studio material can be heard in his remix with Sasha for Charlie May & Bazz Jamieson’s ‘Homecoming’, and the forthcoming EP “Work For Love” in collaboration with Martin Dawson (of Cocoon and Get Physical fame).

As a DJ his parties stand out, from Sao Paulo to Paris, he performs must see sets and 2011 will be no different. Partnering up with Sasha to create ‘Never Say Never’ at the uber cool Ushuaia in Ibiza last summer put the pair at the top of the food chain with a party that is set to shake the island to its core this year.

Moshic

We could introduce Moshic in many ways, but none of them would be enough to describe this unique & diverse artist from Israel. He’s been touring the world for many years and has established an amazing name for himself as a great performer and an extraordinary studio artist.

Northern Israel, Haifa (1977), Moshic Shlomi is born. A man, whose name thrills millions of progressive House fans today. He grew up in a family of musicians, but not everything in his life inclined cheerful singing.

At the age of 18, he was enlisted to National Service, where as a medic, he had to deal with death everyday. Soldiers brought from Lebanon were dying right in front of his eyes. Continuous suicide attacks and living on a time bomb made Moshic understand, what the most important thing in life is; to seize the day.

When he finished paying his debts to the country, he decided to devote himself completely to electronic music. He fell in love with progressive, which wasn’t too popular at that time in Israel. He was handing out his mixes wherever he could, but the scene ignored his “too dark” style. Disillusioned, he moved to New York – the city where John Digweed and Sasha were spinning records in Twilo, and Moshic’s progressive darkness finally found a susceptible breeding ground.

Moshic released his first singles under the Argonout guise. Argonout (Aka Moshic) is Moshic’s first project and got releases threw Cyber records (NL).

A regular player in the top of the beatport charts with over 100 releases to date, Will’s recent massive ‘Hit The Club’ banger loomed large in all credible bassbins at the end of last year, receiving heavy radio support from Kissy Sell Out, Pete Tong and Judge Jules, while a long list of DJs including Crookers, mstrkrft and Paul Oakenfold gave it considerable club rotation. …. Bass Weazel’s catalogue, included ‘Kill The Fox’, ‘Break The Bomb’ and ‘Loco Selector’ followed suit, scoring high on the playlists for specialist shows. Bass Weazal’s ‘Jungle Massive’ has also recently appeared on the Plump DJs’ mix for Global Underground. …. With a natural ear for heavy hitters, it was clear that the Birmingham-based studio whizz would find success with his own label Simma. With a collaboration between himself and Hot Mouth (‘Underwear Funk’) and Aniki and Bling Fingah released in the autumn of 2009 and more in the pipeline, plus a series of crazy Simma parties held in mystery locations, it looks as if Simma’s already boiling over… …. Anderson Noise

Brazil’s Anderson Noise stands today as one of the main reasons electronic music has a home in his country. Influenced by the acid house explosion at the end of the 1980s, Anderson began DJing locally, before becoming responsible for some of the first major dance music events in this region, even throwing parties in a mental institution and the lot of a car dealership.

By the end of the 90s, Anderson was acknowledged as the most talented underground DJ in Brazil and is still a permanent fixture at the country’s principal events, such as the Skol Beats Festival or the electronic tent of Rock in Rio. Since then, an international tour schedule – across every major global clubbing destination – has become a way of life for Noise, who has also garnered strong plaudits from the likes of Carl Cox in support of his skills.

Anderson has a strong release history, including a long running compilation series, a radio show ‘Radio Noise’, a TV show, a collaborative concert with full orchestra alongside Brazil’s renowned classical composer Joao Carlos Martins and he remains the most successful Brazilian artist in the history of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll, attaining #26 in 2008. More than this though, Anderson Noise’s achievements mark him out as an ambassador for electronic music, notably on behalf of Brazil and increasingly also at an international level.

Pete Gooding

London-based Gooding has spent the past decade conjuring up a quiet storm. Still renowned as long-time resident at Cafe Mambo in Ibiza – where he played alongside the biggest names in the business and presided over the legendary sunset sessions – he has since established himself as hit-making producer with a continued presence as an international DJ.

Worldwide chart, radio, and club hit ‘Runnin’, on Positiva, with collaborator James Doman in 2009, put him top of the Beatport download chart and firmly in-demand across commercial and underground dance floors alike. One minute Pete is headlining well-known international club brands such as Cream and Gatecrasher and the next playing under-the-radar parties in Shoreditch, Croatia or Sweden.

His massively popular radio show, ‘The Global Network’, is yet another facet of his portfolio, featuring all flavors of his musical palette and guest mixes from the likes of DJ Hell or Steve Lawler, the show is now broadcast on over 40 stations worldwide.

With projects ongoing alongside artists like Chris Coco, Alex Tepper and Afterlife’s Steve Miller, Gooding’s musical offerings are boundless, as he continues to retain a heavy tour schedule and an excellent track record for producing killer dance floor anthems.

Angel Moraes

Angel MoraesA Native New Yorker, Angel Moraes is one of dance music’s enduring pioneers and heroes. His label Hot’n'Spycy was one of the most significant imprints for pushing the legendary New York sound of the 90s. It lead to a 20 year DJ and production career that has seen Angel play at the world’s best clubs and work with the biggest names in dance music and beyond.

With a heritage deeply rooted in the burgeoning disco and house scene that he grew up with, Angel was a dedicated Paradise Garage member and like so many, the club became his life. Unlike the many, he was destined to shape the future course of the scene and through the 90s was instrumental in creating the famed New York sound that began at that time. Working with Victor Simonelli in the early days, those mid 90s releases like ‘Release Yourself’, ‘Burnin’ Up’ and ‘I Like It’ remain classics of the genre; forging the tough, bass, drum driven, industrial tribalism that would be so popular globally by the end of the decade.

Being one of the producers du jour, Angel was already working with the likes of The Pet Shop Boys, KD Lang, Jocelyn Brown, Roy Davis Jr. and Loleatta Holloway when his 1995 track ‘Welcome to the Factory’ exploded and inspired a different approach to what was possible within dance music production. On the back of its success, Angel began with earnest what has continued to be a non-stop touring schedule around Europe, Asia and the Americas.

In recent years, with the enduring popularity of classic sounding house, Angel has become one of the most influential teachers to a new generation of artists as his name continues to prevail. Moreover, he has continued producing the sound he made famous, including releases on stellar labels like Subliminal and Star 69 Records.
